Description

In the city of Cantuaria in Cantii, the current Earl entertains the local nobility carrying out his dutiful search for a potential bride. The Earl, Devon Indah, is host to a wealth of the city’s richest families, including the Whitegrove family; who openly oppose his ascension to leadership. Meanwhile, across the State, small villages are plagued by the devastating Red Germ. The villages of Hildenbough are readying to gather to discuss an exciting new Faire in their region when a party from Ramney comes across one such doomed village. Before they have a chance to return to their village and raise the alarm they are slaughtered by a soldier wearing crimson.

The Order of the Crimson Guard, a zealous army led by Horatio Bright, aims to purge the hierarchy of the State by ridding Cantii of its current earl and replacing it with one of their choosing. They are recruited by the influential Whitegrove family, specifically father and son, Algric and Yurek, with the intention of putting a Whitegrove on the Seat of Power; the Earl of Cantii. Teaming up with another noble, Khastor Manatager, the plot unravels to the detriment of the earl.

During the campaign, Horatio Bright becomes obsessed with finding his daughters, twins lost to him as children after they fled their mountain retreat. Horatio seeks to find his daughters, who if still alive would be adults, due to the fact that he believes them to reside in the villages of Hildenbough, the very same villages he and his army are systematically annihilating with the Red Germ. Unbeknownst to Horatio his daughters succumb to the ravages of the disease and the flames of their burning house.

With the Order of the Crimson Guard now fully occupying the earl’s stately home the earl finds allies in a band of spies loyal to the Throne; Shadows. Guided by one of the Shadows, Algric Whitegrove’s youngest child, Esselte, seeks to warn the earl of the impending threat. Arriving too late, however, Esselte is captured. The spy flees in pursuit of the earl who, having received word of the atrocities in Hildenbough, had decided to investigate first hand. A timely escape by the earl leads to a man-hunt by the Shadows, the Crimson Guard and Yurek’s private assassin. The three parties converge on the earl at Ramney where the ransacked town is all that remains. However, as the earl looks set to die, the ground rips open revealing two heavily scarred and broken forms; twin sisters.

Saving the earl and the Shadows’ spy, the twins seek to enact revenge on the party responsible for their twisted fate. This effort leads them to the earl’s home where the twins, joined by more Shadows, infiltrate the locked down home and destroy the Order of the Crimson Guard within. Just prior to that coup Horatio betrays Algric Whitegrove and the other gathered nobles who all sought to place themselves on the Seat of Power at the bequest of Algric’s own son. Horatio then betrays him, fully intending to assume the post himself.

With Cantuaria free from the Crimson Guard the twins are free to pursue the leader of the wretched army; their own father, Horatio Bright. With Devon Indah’s aid they reach the mountain headquarters where they wittingly unleash a vial of the Red Germ killing everyone within.
