Charity and Its Fruits

Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) is well-known as a theologian whose profound thought has made him very influential. Here we see more of his pastor’s heart, in an exposition of 1 Corinthians 13 drawing out the significance of charity or Christian love in the believer’s life. Each chapter is the product of a lecture delivered on one facet of this theme and Edwards teases out many practical applications of each department of love. Pastors and serious readers alike will find an abundance of material here.

Charity & Its Fruits was first published posthumously in 1852 by his great grandson, Tryon Edwards, from a complete manuscript prepared by Edwards himself. This edition has been completely re-typeset for issue as an eBook.

The cover image shows the refraction of white light through a prism to show the components with their different wavelengths. This illustrates Paul’s approach in 1 Corinthians 13, where each component of love is seen separately but all are shown to be necessary to make the whole.
