This review is from: Blackbird: A Boy Meets The Devil For the First Time (Kindle Edition)
I've been reading about 70 years and Blackbird is one of those rare nuggets of pure gold in a whole mountain of clay . It plays out like the blues, full of riffs and bass and gravel that spin themselves into a mirror of soul not ashamed to get down and dirty and come up dragging us into a light we refused to open our eyes to before. Don't let the stomp and shuffle and guffaws fool you into thinking it's not about you, you ain't gonna get off that easy. I was in Gadsden Alabama for about three months in 1958, and he's not telling any lies. It was my first experience with deep southern segregationist views. A great morality tale
About this story:
"A Very Beautiful Story..." Theresa Beverly
"I'm Loving the Boogie McCain Story..." Wyatt Cornelius
"I'm Gone." The Life, Death, and Funeral of Blues Legend Jerry "Boogie" McCain.
Jerry "Boogie" McCain was one of the last of the old Blues Musicians. He had three ways he could kill you. The best was with that Blues Harp. You don't want to know about the other two. I was fortunate enough to live in the same town as him and to talk with him just weeks before he died. This is what I know of him, and of his life, death, and funeral. I went to the funeral, and followed him all the way to his last resting place. By doing so I was present when the most important thing about Boogie was made known. Join me as I take you from the street corners of Gadsden, Alabama where he grew up and learned to play the harp after hearing Little Walter, to the red clay he was buried in, in April 2012... and learn of all the great blues music that came in between. Til that day when he said for the last time... "I'm Gone."
"I'm Gone." The Life, Death, and Funeral of Blues Legend Jerry "Boogie" McCain.
