From this we at once learn that in every I ncantation, words whether few or many, are required to be uttered {verba prophorica and hence in these pages we discard without further notice amulets with words inscribed on them, marks, ceremonies and other superstitious acts of this kind performed in silence, as is often the case. II. rriHAT the origin of this superstitious and JL fraudulent art is ancient enough, is attested alike by sacred and by profane literature.
