I ntroduction. In preparing this work the authors have had in mind three classes: i. Business men and accountants who want a reference book in specialized accounting methods, rather more technical and scientific than the usual bookkeeping texts. 2. Teachers who want a text in advanced accounting from which supplementary work can be chosen for their graduating pupils who are preparing for special lines of business. 3T he class of commercial teachers rapidly increasing who want a carefully developed course of higher text book accounting for advanced work, that dispenses with the voucher and laboratory methods that are used successfully in initiatory accounting study. We have consulted successful accountants and business managers freely and have spared neither time nor pains in the effort to produce a manual of accounting that would represent modern methods which could be safely followed by bookkeepers and teachers in the special lines of accounting introduced.
