Description

My Run for the Presidency and Other Assorted Crap is a fictional memoir by an accidental Presidential candidate who succeeds to the highest office in the land. It lampoons the antics that go on in Washington politics, and especially the circus atmosphere surrounding the Presidential campaigns.
It is written from the perspective of a male nurse,(Preston Smyth), who impulsively responds to a radio talk show question about how he would conduct himself in a Presidential contest. He subsequently finds himself in the midst of his own campaign to parody the actual one being played out before the American people. Preston's ongoing relationships with his neurotic girlfriend, and overbearing mother keep him tethered to the more mundane side of his life.
Weaved into the memoir in a tactful, yet funny manner is the topic of constipation and how Preston successfully resolves this problem in his patients. The theme of the novel is illustrated when Preston reveals to his campaign managers that he gives enemas on the side, and one of them says, "Oh, this'll be good. A politician who doesn't dish out the crap, but removes it instead."
Being a nurse myself for thirty years, I do believe that laughter frequently can be the best medicine. However the sad truth is that politics as usual can make any American sick to his stomach.
