Description

The focus of the CD Birds of Polynesia are the islands Henderson, Ducie Atoll, Oeneo Atoll, Cook islands, Kiribati, Niue island, Tonga, Western Samoa, Fiji and Rotuma. The material on this CD comes from a range of sources such as local ornithologists, scientific expeditions and visiting film crews. Along with the earlier McPherson recordings this CD became a valuable reference for those visiting these islands. In Polynesia are living some of the rarest birds in the world, some of them restricted to only one island, others confined in a few remote valleys. In such cases they are not easily found and seen. This is why sound recordings are so useful: once you have heard the call of a bird it is more easy to determine its name. Les McPherson has given his attention to birds of the Pacific Islands, with the goal of building up a substantial archive of their calls before too many species become extinct. He has already acquired material from two large collections of recordings from most of French Polynesia, as well as lesser amounts of material from other Pacific Islands.
