Hip Hop and Jr. College

Hip Hop and Jr. College is the first book by Chicago-based radio and TV personality Seth Tower Hurd.

In the summer of 2001, Seth showed up for an open gym to try out for the local jr. college basketball team, where he was greeted with "this is the black team, we don't [explative] need white people."

What happened next involved (in no particular order), gang members, theft, Jesse Jackson, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Jay-Z's classic album The Blueprint, Barack Obama, and Hurd's abusive father leaving.

All in the span of eight months.

This is a book about the conversations we don't have about race and poverty.
