Of all the countries I journeyed to in Africa, Mali leaves me with the best memories. The most amazing memories. What a hot, dry, desolate land filled with wonder! From the mosque at Djenne to the Bani and Niger rivers, Mali was mind blowing. Nothing more so, though, than the Dogon country! The escarpment, with villages below and atop, is one of the world's natural wonders, even if the books don't tell you so.
To meet the people of Mali and see the smiles of the children was something that finally warmed me to this steaming hot continent. As my journey entered the penultimate country, I found the spirit I was looking for before in Africa. I could experience the place with joy and wonderment. Mali - you are amazing!
