The Prisoner's Friend

It is 1915 and James Farringdon has arrived at the Western Front to serve with the 19th Durham Light Infantry. Amid the squalor and brutality he witnesses some of the acts of kindness and bravery that came to symbolise the Great War.

When a man in his battalion is charged with a serious crime, Farringdon is compelled by his conscience to speak in the man’s defence.
