Commander Gus Colt lives up to the Royal Navy's unofficial nickname, Peacemaker. But he recognizes that sometimes you have to slap the bad-guys upside the head to keep the peace. Being shot at by a sniper as he reports for duty aboard the carrier HMS Invincible gives him his first hint that trouble lies ahead and some bad-guys need head slapping.
Â
It's been two hundred years since the first settlers landed on the planet Corona, and the colonists face a nightmare situation. The governor general of the planet has reported the discovery of natives to the Colonization Board. Because colonizing an inhabited planet is prohibited, the colonists face imminent relocation. Rebellions break out across the planet as they fight to defend the only home they've ever known.
When the Invincible is dispatched to stop the fighting, Colt gets more than he bargained for. The Invincible vanishes in a cloud of ions at the same time the shuttle he is co-piloting loses power. He survives the crash landing only to be captured by the rebels. He escapes but is critically injured getting away. Near death from his injuries, he is found by natives who take him to a human owned farm for treatment.
While recuperating he falls in love with the widowed farmer, and unintentionally draws her into danger. Continuing the Invincible's mission, he sets out to disrupt the rebellion and bring the saboteurs who blew up the Invincible to justice. As the rebellion begins to collapse, Colt gets too close to the person orchestrating it, and he and the lady farmer become prime targets.
To survive, stop the rebellion, and win the woman he loves, Colt must identify the real culprit and discover the secret to the natives. It's a life or death struggle, but he has a secret weapon. His detractors call it brashness. His friends call it audacity. He calls it keeping the opposition off balance. This time it may not be enough ...
