“Designing Environments for Young Children” is a book series that currently comprises of three books. All these books use NAEYC guidelines for designing Developmentally Appropriate environments and also the learning standards defined by California Learning Foundations.
“Designing outdoors environment” focuses on creating inviting outdoor play spaces that invite children to explore nature around them. The current trend focuses on creating natural play spaces for children. This book focuses on designing both, traditional and natural play spaces. You will get several ideas to design outdoor areas like, play areas, sand box, water play, and gardens. You will also learn how to use natural materials in outdoor design.
The other two books in this series are, Teaching philosophies for designing environments and Designing Environments using multiple intelligences.
“Teaching philosophies for designing environments” discusses major philosophies in early childhood education and how they influence environmental design. The book focuses on philosophies like Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Play based, Waldorf, PITC (Program for infant toddler caregivers) and parent co-op. The book gives several examples and guidelines to incorporate these philosophies in design.
“Designing Environments using multiple intelligences” focuses on creating environments, which are suitable for all learning styles. It discusses various ways of designing centers that correspond to multiple intelligences theory by Howard Gardner.
