Description

Zambia was declared a Christian nation by its second President, Frederick Chiluba in 1991. The declaration was to find its way in the Republican Constitution that was enacted in 1996 and was highly recommended for inclusion in the constitution bill that was defeated in parliament in 2011 and was likely to be included in the draft constitution that the PF government that defeated the MMD in 2011 was working on. The declaration in itself brought about problems for politicians who did not show commitment to the declaration or even affiliated themselves to a Christian Church particularly the Pentecostal congregations. In the run up to the 2011 elections, a presidential candidate appeared to support homosexuality and the whole Church establishment, a part from one or two Christian groups, ganged up against him, accusing him of being an agent of the devil. The question asked in this book is whether the declaration is a blessing or a curse.
