Description ▲
The purpose of this book is to present the basic principles of semiconductors so that their behavior in fundaental circuit applications can be analyzed and predicted. The essentials of the physics of each device are presented in sufficient detail to explain the shape of their characteristic curves. An electric circuit model for the device is then given, based on either measurements from the characteristic curves or the physics of the device. Experience with the circuit model is gained through studying typical applications, supplemented by analysis or design examples. Extensive use of sweep techniques is utilized throughout the text to show how characteristic curves of any device can be displayed accurately on a cathode ray oscilloscope using a low cost transformer and resistor. Input and output characteristics of a bipolar or field effect transistor, dc or ac load lines, diode current voltage curves including zener or avalance break down, voltage gain of an amplifier, frequency response of a tuned circuit, UJT valey voltage, SCR forward breakover voltage and almost any other device parameter can be drawn by the CRO.
