"Desiderata" means "desired things". Desiderata is Latin and has been interpreted as "Things to be Desired" or "Things Desired As Essential."

The Desiderata prayer is a 1927 prose/poem by American writer Max Ehrmann. The text became widely known after its use as a devotional, but was basically unknown during the span of the author's life.

The American writer Max Ehrmann was born in 1872 and died in 1945.

In 1956, The Reverend Frederick Kates, of Saint Paul's Church in Baltimore, Maryland, included The Desiderata for his congregation as he prepared a book of compositional, devotional materials for their practice and use. The edition included the church's date of it's foundation, stated as: "Old Saint Paul's Church, Baltimore A.D. 1692". The date of the text's authorship was (and frequently still is) widely mistaken as 1692, the year of St. Paul's foundation, when it fact, it was actually originated in 1927.

The text was widely distributed throughout the world in poster form and became very popular, being recorded by several artists.

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the poem was in the public domain, and it still remains in the public domain today.

This book is illustrated via a photo montage as an extra bonus for the reader. At the end of this book, the editor/illustrator has created a specific illustrated photo montage with background music for the reader.
