Keys to Success for School Counselors

I love my job and I am very fortunate to have an opportunity to impact and inspire young people’s lives on a daily basis. I was hired into the educational setting at a time when enrollments were declining and school counselors were being reduced. I am a firm believer in the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and would recommend that all counselors spend time on ASCA’s website. As with most careers, there are differences between what we are taught in school and how things actually work in the real world. The following, in no particular order, are my keys to thriving in the School Counseling Field as we marry what has been taught to us in graduate school with the realities of the school setting today.
