Description ▲
The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has published Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete (ACI 318-11) and Commentary (ACI 318R-11). ACI 318-11 has been adopted by the 2012 International Building Code (IBC). Thus, whenever the 2012 IBC is adopted by a local jurisdiction, as has happened in a number of states and cities already, ACI 318-11 will be law within that jurisdiction.
Some of the changes in the latest cycle are definitely significant in their impact on concrete design and construction and are the subject of this web seminar. Two of the biggest changes are in Appendix D, Anchoring to Concrete. One change alleviates to a great extent the major difficulty designers have had with the design required by Appedix D for anchors subject to seismic design forces in structures assigned to Seismic Design Categories C, D, E, or F. The other change introduces design provisions for adhesive anchors, which are widely used in practice. There are significant changes in Chapter 21, Earthquake-Resistant Structures, including the introduction of design provisions for wall piers. Some of the non-seismic changes are important as well. All significant changes are discussed, along with 2012 IBC modifications of these changes.
