The deportation of the Crimean Tatars
Stalin ordered the ethnic cleansing of all Crimean Tatars. On 18th May 1944, Soviet soldiers rounded them up in Crimea, and herded them on cattle trains. They were dumped in central Asia. The 53% who survived the journey made a new life. But they kept the dream alive. Home. Crimea. The promised land. With the fall of communism, they began to come back. To new challenges.
Another deportation story
There was a young woman who was pregnant. She and her husband were forced to leave their home town. She gave birth in a shed. A boy. One night the government soldiers came and killed all the baby boys in that town. But the husband was warned in a dream to escape, and so he took his little family to a neighbouring country. There the boy continued to grow. When he could walk, they then walked all the way home. He grew up and became famous. The part of the story where the babies were killed is very sad. But the story ends with great joy.
