A VOICE FROM THIRD WORLD AMERICA

They are America throwaway children. You see them on the news, on the streets, in foster homes, prisons, urban schools. We read about the statistics but what about the faces behind the numbers. Who are they? This is Third World America, my America. The America that shaped my social, spiritual and political views. My writings has been called too astringent by those who fear the status quo but I feel it is also a refreshing break from the monotony. I grew up in America's shameful foster care system, walked the streets with other homeless youth as a teenager prostitute. My spiritual journey has taken me through Baptist Churches, to life behind the veil as a American Muslim woman to the pyramids of Egypt. My poetry speaks to my experience.
