This second part is as fun and entertaining as the first, written in a way that made me laugh despite the serious issues Liam and Ryan have to deal with. The web of lies may have been cut at the end of book one, but what follows is a series of misunderstandings that are no less difficult to deal with. This novel also contains some fascinating insights into transability, defined as "The desire of able-bodied people to become disabled, or to enact/perform disability, through medical or other means." Having never read a book that departs from the simple representations of characterizing an individual in a wheelchair and the obvious effects that has on both the person and their relationship I was stunned reading SPECIAL NEEDS. It was an educational experience for me. I had zero awareness of Ryan’s body identity issues or transability. While I’m clearly still ignorant of many things regarding both, I am no longer oblivious.
