What does Ayo do when he returns home from a challenging war front and finds out that he has lost everything that is precious to him? He is considered dead and buried in his community and he must bear the cost of his own ‘resurrection’; his wife has remarried his old enemy and had children; he has lost his property; his relatives are persecuted; someone wants him out of the picture. Self-exile seems to be the only way out. But will a decorated war hero like Ayo give in to his enemies for good?
Set in pre-independence West Africa, Traded for a Trifle is the story of an ex-serviceman of the RWAFF for whom the end of WW2 is only the beginning of the battles he would fight to survive an uneasy peace.
The novel is an overdue tribute to hundreds of thousands of 'forgotten' African soldiers of the British Empire who fought bravely in North Africa and the inhospitable jungles of Burma, contributing to the success of the Allies in World War II.
