Description

Early in the American Pentecostal outpouring an early Pioneer of American Pentecostalism coined the term ‘latter rain’ to refer to what was happening in Los Angeles at Azusa Street. In 1910 David Wesley Myland wrote this book “The Latter Rain Covenant” in which he attempted to compare the physical rainfall in Israel with the manifestations of the Holy Spirit at Azusa and in Pentecostal churches. The material of this book was initially published by Wm. Hamner Piper, pastor of the famous ‘Stone Church,’ in Chicago, IL., in his magazine called “The Latter Rain Evangel.”
Myland's book was the first attempt to see the Pentecostal experience as a fulfilment of the ‘latter rain’ references of the Old Testament is one of the first defences of Pentecostalism. D. Wesley Myland is, therefore, the person who coined the term “Latter Rain Movement.”
