The book won the National Sade Prize for Military Literature. The prize was given to the author personally by Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Iftach Spector is a retired IAF (Israel Air Force) Brigadier-General.
Born 1940, raised in a Kibbutz, he joined pilot training in 1958 and earned his wings in 1960. Gained honors as fighter pilot and leader, and is one of jet aviation's top aces.

In the 1973 Yom-Kippur War Lt. Col. Spector commanded F-4 Phantom squadron #107. Later he became the IAF’s Chief of Operations. Then, while commanding a fighter base, Col. Spector was entrusted also with the assimilation of the American F-16 jet fighter into the IAF. While base commander, flying an F-16, he participated in the destruction of the Iraqi nuclear reactor Osirak in 1981.

Since 2001, Mr. Spector is active for unilateral disengagement of Israel from the Palestinians. In 2003 he was a signatory of the “Pilot’s Letter”, which vowed not to take part in immoral and unlawful military activities. His second book “Loud and Clear”, published in 2008, gives account of this venture as part of the story of modern Israel. The book was also best selling in Israel and translated to English and other languages.
Mr. Spector is married to Alisa Samuel, and they have 4 children and 11 grandchildren, all living in Israel.
