Description

In this novel William “Little Bill” Cook narrates the picaresque story of his young criminal life during the American Depression and Prohibition.
At the age of seventeen, already a thief and a drunkard, he meets Clyde Barrow and they team up to rob stores and eventually banks before Clyde is caught and Little Bill flees town and ends up in Kansas City where he joins up with “Pretty Boy” Floyd as a getaway driver until he is wounded in a disastrous bank robbery and returns to Dallas. He soon meets up with Clyde again and his new girlfriend, Bonnie Parker, who Little Bill falls head over heels in love with. After Clyde is arrested and sentenced to fourteen years in Eastham Prison Farm Little Bill seizes his chance and he and Bonnie start a secret affair. Little Bill is deeply in love with her, but although she loves him she still remains besotted with Clyde and ends their affair after a few months. When Clyde is released after serving only two years she joins up with him again and they embark on their famous crime spree. But Clyde is now a bitter and violent man and Little Bill determines to try and save Bonnie from the fate he foresees for her if she stays with Clyde.
