The Bucolics of Vergil

The charm, the variety and the historical and literary interest of the Bucolics make these little poems more entertaining material than the Gerogics or additional books of the epic. Notes have been designed to encourage rapid reading, to explain connections of thought which in poems in the pastoral convention are often obscure, and to emphasize matters of literary, rather than grammatical importance, and end which I hope will also be served by the inclusion after each poem of a section devoted to sources and limitations. There is a general vocabulary, as well as a separate list of words particularly associate with pastoral scenes.
