Nothing in life is certain except one thing: eventually, everyone will die a physical death. Every society in the world has tried to build stories around what happens when one passes from this physical world.

Christians know, because of our faith in God, that we will live with Christ for eternity. Not for anything we have done, but by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for our sins. What an amazing privilege, but it comes with great responsibility, as well.

I met a man who asked me what I would write to my son (a newborn at the time) if it was my last message. He handed me a business card and said, “That’s the all the space you have to write it.” Even though this was the first time I had met this gentleman, it really was a deep question that helped me to evaluate and reflect on what is most important for living my life.

While these prayers can be used at a funeral or to meditate on after a loved one has passed away, it has been written with the purpose to help us all live better lives for Christ with eternity on our minds. My hope is that the prayers can inspire you to write your own. You certainly may use one at a loved one’s funeral, also.
