About The Author
Montague Rhodes James (1862 –1936), was an English author, medieval scholar and provost of King's College, Cambridge. He is best remembered for his ghost stories, in which he abandoned many of the formal Gothic clichés and used realistic settings. James's protagonists and plots tend to reflect his own antiquarian interests.
Many of his ghost stories were written to be read aloud as was traditional on spooky Christmas Eve. His tales are often based in rural settings, with a scholarly caught in the whirl of the supernatural.
