Jujitsu is a technique used in Japanese martial arts. It was created as a means of defeating an opponent without the use of weapons. The aim of Jujitsu is to use ‘soft’ methods of attack and defense to defeat one’s opponents. It utilizes the art of balance, momentum and leverage as opposed to Karate, which uses ‘hard’ methods such as speed, strength and power.
There are many different Jujitsu techniques in use today. This concise, introduction to the art of Jujitsu explores many of the common techniques, including throwing, trapping, gouging, striking and kicking. The book also looks at some of the more common combat moves in jujitsu including:
- Defensive moves such as, blocking, evading, and escaping.
- Restraining moves such as, wrestling, and pinning.
- Striking moves such as, kicking, and punching.
- Various body throws
Written with the beginner in mind, this introductory guide is easy to read and to understand. In addition to Jujitsu, the book also includes an overview of similar martial arts including Judo, Baritsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
The book concludes with a useful section on Safety and Injuries.
