When twenty-something Nathan Workman chooses to rent the downstairs rooms of the desolate old farmhouse, he thinks it will be perfect for him, finally freed from the watchful and judgmental eyes of his retired parents who do not approve of his partying and video gaming habits. He also hopes his girlfriend Kate will decide to move in with him. Eventually.
And so what if the weirdo out-of-town owners closed the upper floor for their half-explained and nearly unbelievable reasons? The downstairs rooms are spacious and nicely remodeled, complete with brand new appliances and a wood-burning stove, and he has no need the extra space above his head; he just wants a place of his own. Besides, the rent is cheap.
But when one of his half-drunken friends throws a football wildly the first night Nathan spends at the house, breaking one of the upstairs windows, it sets in motion a series of strange and tragic events that lead him to discover the dark secrets of the old house and its mysterious upstairs rooms, and why they have been closed to the world for so long. And these secrets are stranger, and perhaps more dangerous, than anything Nathan could have imagined, even in his wildest dreams.
