“In 1942, Arthur E. Pekarek enlisted In the Army Air Force. After extensive training to become a Radio Gunner he was deployed to the Mediterranean Theater of Operation in WW ll. There he was a crew-member in the B-26 “Sweet Sixteen†and eventually flew in a B-25 BN-15.
This story is about his enlistment and training, and then the actual fighting, based on the 437th Bomb Squadron and his Mission Log from Sardinia and Corsica as he flew combat missions into France, Italy and Yugoslavia.
His story and the testimonies of the other airmen during this period of our history, is what they experienced and the hardships they endured. They are presented in this account for the enjoyment of the reader, as close to the actual happenings as possible."
