The Lady Grace Chronicles looks at the countries (and cultures) that hold beliefs in family honor and sexual purity that justify the torture, mutilation, and murder of women. These same cultures have ideologies that promote male sexual entitlement, ownership and greater standing in their communities. The women who live in such cultures have no one and nothing to turn to. Local customs and governing laws do not protect them against the most heinous of acts.

The Toothed Vagina deals with a series of rapes and murders that actually occurred in India, as similar rapes and murders continue to occur daily. Like most of the books in this series, real events triggered a purpose for the book but, unlike the other books, the real life politicians involved in this story show no signs of remorse for the victims and no signs of changing India’s rape culture. This was truly an upsettling book to write as political leader after political leader, even in the months between April and June 2014, continued to defend rape, defend men who rape, suggest that rapists are to be forgiven and that rape victims should be hanged. Since June 2014, just 60 miles from where the two young cousins were gang raped and hung in Uttar Pradesh, another young woman was gang raped and murdered, by being strangled, having acid thrown in her face, and being forced to drink acid. After a 6-year-old girl was raped by “unknown persons” in her elementary school in Bangalore, school officials and local police tried to hush up the incident. And in the Bokara district, a 10-year-old girl was raped on orders of the village chief “as punishment” for her father’s offense. Her father’s crime? He beat up the 25-year-old drunk man who broke into their house and tried to rape his wife. These appalling crimes cannot be ignored and warrant action by the international courts. Until some entity steps in, the lives of every female in India are in great peril.
