Description

In 1956 John Gilroy's collier father killed himself. No one knows why. His father's death gets him a scholarship to an exclusive school. His mother sees this as a way for him to leave the working class hardships his family have always known.
In 1985 John is an MI5 officer reporting on the Miners' Strike to the Thatcher Government. He sees Police operations charging unarmed men who are fighting for their jobs and their communities. At the same time, the world is fearful about Reagan's rhetoric about wiping out Socialism, through nuclear war if necessary. Researching into his father's suicide, he finds more than he bargained for. He is then posted to work against the KGB and can no longer avoid the question of where his true loyalties lie.
