Dark Tales before Slumber is a collection of five short stories each delving into the paranormal and the extraterrestrial. The first tale, The Noah Variant, speculates that humanity is no more than an experiment initiated thousands of years ago by a superior intelligence wishing to test a theory. When Earth's environment starts to fail, thereby jeopardizing the experiment's outcome, the time has come to make a decision--and it is not left to man to decide. The second tale, Carnival House, is the crown jewel of the collection. Lured into an alternate dimension by a Skinwalker, three Utah teens must outwit the trickster or wander condemned for eternity in a world of half-light. The third tale, Reality Star, explores the dark side of the paranormal and supernatural when a young man from the hood tries to find a way out. The final two stories, One Click of the Mouse and Not Feeling Myself Today, are both science-fiction. The sooner takes a look at human nature when confronted with termination by an alien invasion, both as individuals and as leaders. The latter explores the conflict between multiple alien races--mankind included--when what we are becomes more important than who we are.
