Description

Shinkenchiku, November 2014 Special Issue "JAPAN ARCHITECTS 1945-2010" is an official catalog of the exhibition of the same name co-produced by the Centre Pompidou - Musée national dʼ art moderne (Mnam) and 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. The exhibition - held from 1st November 2014 to 15th March 2015 at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its opening - was curated by Frédéric Migayrou, Deputy Director of the Mnam. The show offered a museographic view by tracing the development of Japanese post-war architecture and highlighted the works of Japanese architects. With the presentation of more than 250 original architectural drawings, documents of concepts and models by some 80 architects, some of which are housed by the Centre Pompidou, it represents a rare opportunity to view a wide variety of valuable architectural materials in one venue. The exhibition is chronologically composed of six periods and forms six rooms, each of which has a corresponding color. Along with those materials and illustrations in six sections, the Special Issue "JAPAN ARCHITECTS 1945-2010" presents special essays by Frédéric Migayrou, Arata Isozaki, Makoto Ueda and Souhei Imamura, making it distinct and fully archival. It is worth having it aside to follow the exhibition.
