The Coldest Winter in a Century is the epic sequel to Paul David Bauer's debut novel, Saint Ed. It brings the characters of Saint Ed forward into the winter of 1944-45 and World War II, with stories that reach from the bitter battlefields of Western Europe to the wilderness airbases of Alaska and to the horrors of wartime Moscow and the Eastern Front. Ed Rybowski is a company commander in the brutal battle of the Huertgen Forest. His best friend, Billy Randolph, is an intelligence officer on the staff of SHAEF in London, hiding his communist past. Mary Randolph, Billy's sister and Ed's estranged wife, is a rising bureaucrat in the Department of Interior back in Washington. Cathy Quinn, Ed's college girlfriend, is a nurse in an amputee ward of a Boston veterans hospital. All are changed utterly by the war.

The Coldest Winter in a Century will be published in multiple volumes serially beginning in December 2013.
