This edition (part 4) illustrates the tissue changes of the liver (the middle
pathway organ) in the severe form of Preeclampsia/Eclampsia (PE/E) with HELLP (a
variant of PE named by Weinstein in 2005)
This follows the author’s previous publications in the Preeclampsia/Eclampsia
(PE/E) series including Part 1 (the gravid uterus, cervix and ovary with atherosclerotic
and hypertensive microvascular disease), Part 2 (inflammation of mesenteric adipose
tissue and lymph nodes), and Part 3 (target end-organ effect in the lung with sleep
disordered breathing or obstructive sleep apnea). Part 4 illustrates the tissue changes
of the liver, the middle pathway organ in the severe form of PE/E with HELLP
(hypertensive disorders with severe features in pregnancy, Report of the ACOG Task
Force on Hypertension in Pregnancy 2013).
