Description

“The Life of a Physician Under The Khmer Rouge Regime” tells the odyssey of a
Cambodian doctor in a Northwestern province of Cambodia, Battambang, during the
Khmer Rouge Regime (1975-1979). On April 21th 1975, four days after taking over
Lon Nol´s regime, the Khmer Rouge executed his fellow physicians working at the
Military Hospital where he narrowly escaped from. Separated from his wife, who was
stuck in Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, and expelled from Battambang town to the
rural areas like all Cambodian people, he worked for a month at the rice fields and
then was called to work successively at 3 Khmer Rouge Hospitals for 18 months: a
High School-based District Hospital, the former Provincial Military Hospital and the
former Civilian Hospital in Battambang town. Subsequently, he was sent back again to the rural areas and worked at the rice fields until the collapse of the Khmer Rouge
regime on January 7th 1979.
