A Reason to Stay: An Emo Love Story

The early morning autumn air caused a pain in Miles' body he had seldom felt before; like pressure on a bruise that covered all of his skin, made only worse by the image in his mind of that pressure splitting his skin open to reveal that there never really was anything inside that mattered at all.

Miles stopped along the side of a bridge that over-looked a shallow river... to find he was not the only sullen soul out after midnight. A street light shone down on the stranger: a young woman, hair long and blonde, clad from head to toe in Gothic attire, peering over the edge of the bridge to the dim river below.

Miles stepped into the light and lightly waved to the girl. "Hey."

The girl kept her gaze fixed on the invisible waters below. "Greetings," she replied.

"You look nice."

"One ought to be dressed properly...for their own funeral."
