"May the devil take you, indeed," the doctor said taking a long swig from the whiskey bottle and tipping it toward the fireplace.
Deborah had passed out and didn't witness the metamorphosis of her child into the beast that escaped through the chimney. Somehow it came to Kaalia to explain it to her.
"Where is my baby?" Mrs. Leeds asked.
"You need to rest, ma'am," Kaalia said.
"Not without my baby. My baby boy," she said.
"There is something you need to know," Kaalia said trying to decide if he should tell her that her child had died or that he was a hideous monster.
Pawan wrapped himself around Kaalia and pulled the peacock feather from his hair then ran from the room. Kaalia immediately chased after. He caught the monkey in a servant closet down the hall.
"You cannot tell her a lie. She'll ask to see the baby and you'd have to follow one lie up with another and then another." Pawan said as he handed Kaalia back his feather.
"And telling her that he turned into a monster is going to be better?"
"The truth is always better, even if it is unsavory."
