School: Recess, Backpacks, and Other Stuff Gr. 1

Our unit uses the topics of School, Books, Paper, Lunch, Recess, Backpacks, Glue, and Home to introduce students to reading and writing. This highly structured unit contains detailed day-by-day lesson plans, a writing book, a student activity book, group and individual word cards for spelling, crossword, word search, test, and a parent/child homework activity page for each lesson. Structure is the order of the day as lesson plans describe different possible teaching strategies. Each lesson includes a brainstorming activity, a study of new sight words, a spelling activity, work in the activity book, work in the writing book and playing the match game. This Primary Studies unit provides a teacher and student section with a variety of lessons, activities, crossword and word search to create a well-rounded lesson plan.
