Emily's Glorious Summer: A romantic comedy and a tragedy

Hector is the shy, indolent but amiable director of a taxi firm. Melanie is one of his employees She is immersed in romantic novels and crazily in love with him, her real-life hero, and unable to accept his indifference. Emily is a ferocious and discontented college lecturer in conflict with Robin, her boss. Robin has troubles of his own, being held responsible for the loss of a valuable document. A motor accident brings them all together and hilarious events follow: mishaps and misunderstandings, financial blunders, romantic entanglements, mistaken bedrooms, mysterious burglaries and frights on a coastal path. It's all as plausible and true-to-life as a tale from PG Wodehouse (who makes and appearance of a sort) or one from Mills and Boon. To top it all off, it has a ludicrous but very happy ending.
In the second novella, A Life Abandoned, the aristocratic Rufus, owner of a Scottish island becomes entangled in the lives of three ordinary people with tender, tragic and ultimately satisfying consequences.
