Description

Italy, the summer of 1944.

The Allies have captured Rome and landed in Normandy to invade enemy-occupied France.

An R.A.F. squadron based in south-eastern Italy are flying its Lysanders and Halifaxes deep behind enemy lines.

They use the Lysanders to take agents and guerrilla leaders to and from small improvised landing grounds in northern Italy and Yugoslavia; and the Halifaxes to drop them, as well as their arms and equipment, there and even further afield.

The Italian partisans in the mountains, led by British and American liaison officers, live in constant danger of discovery by the Germans.

Among the guerrillas are two young women — their presence aggravating the squadron’s problems and adding emotional complications.

After the fall of Rome, the Allies plan a parachute and glider-bourne assault far behind the Front Line: to take the enemy in the rear, cut his supply lines and defeat him in Italy — which would enable the Allies to send more divisions to France and thus shorten the war.

The mission will take the squad deep 'Behind Enemy Lines'.

But it is far from certain whether they will ever return.

'Behind Enemy Lines' is a thrillingly authentic WWII adventure from a master of the genre.

It was originally published as ‘The Mooncomers’.
