A German term for “lightning war,” blitzkrieg is a military tactic designed to create disorder among enemy forces through the use of excessive firepower and sheer military might. During the campaigns of the 1940’s, Adolf Hitler and Erwin Rommel used such tactics to decimate opponents and conquer the battlefield. It was a quick, violent, and unmatched tactic that would become a viable strategy for years to come.
