"In a building set for demolition, someone is tied up and grudgingly listening to a story about mystical beings called Shires.

In Part One, the storyteller shares the adventures of Christopher Radell, a Shire born in 1502. Grow with him as he learns about Chosen, arahdor, sharing ruccana, and most importantly . . . love and loss. The one tied up could care less except when the storyteller messes up the story, which happens on occasion.

In Part Two, the story jumps to 1984 and Sandy is introduced—she is single, works in the office of Kramer Construction, and someone wants her dead. Unknown to Sandy, several Shires protect her . . . until one night.
