Description

Lieutenant Enoch Stahler's time in the Third New York Cavalry brought him face to face with the worst that war could deliver. From his first enlistment in 1861 through his 1864 wounding, capture, and confinement in Libby Prison, he remained determined to survive the ordeal. And he did.

Only one year before his death in 1910, Stahler penned this short but very engaging recounting of his time as a Union cavalry officer and his profession as a flour miller. He included interesting details about his wound, his recovery, and letters exchanged with former Confederate surgeons who operated on him.

Every memoir of the American Civil War provides us with another view of the catastrophe that changed the country forever.

For the first time, this long out-of-print volume is available as an affordable, well-formatted book for e-readers and smartphones.
