Description

This love story will challenge two people in ways they never thought possible when they are suddenly trapped in a web of illness unlike anything they have ever known. Can love overcome what these two discover as their fate together? Can they make it work?
Cheryl Brown, a registered nurse with years of experience, relates this personal story along with her husband. After dating briefly, she and James, a former Marine, marry, and their lives are paradise for a few short months. James is unexpectedly brought down with an undetermined illness that leaves him unable to walk, unable to sleep, and in constant pain. The problem appears unsolvable as they meet with several physicians. It is only after consulting a specialist that they realize what James will be fighting or the rest of his life. They discover that James has Multiple Sclerosis. After seeing several doctors, the verdict is confirmed.
With James having M.S., a life-long disease, the change in this newly married couple’s situation is catastrophic. Unable to work and unable even to walk at times, James struggles as M.S. completely changes their lives. Initially, James was the proud father of Cheryl’s daughter from her first marriage. But now, Cheryl is forced to care for him while trying to obtain funds from the Marine Corps to help make it easier.
This unusual love story offers a challenge that few could accept. It requires a deep understanding of her husband, James, who until recently, has led a very successful life. James is determined to be his own boss. As he tries, he is thrown back into a disease he cannot control. James was given an honorable discharge from the service when his disease was first discovered. Now Cheryl must find a new way to care for her husband as well as her little daughter.
How will these conflicts unfold in the months and years they have together? How they manage to cope with James’ illness is unusual, shocking, and challenging, for both Cheryl and James will enjoy those small moments of joy and fun as well as the sadness that comes from the discovery as they learn to live together. James continually attempts to seek work but is driven home by this disease.
How will Cheryl cope with a problem that is almost unfathomable? Somehow, in some mysterious and almost spiritual way, she manages to rise to the occasion. In the years that lie ahead, she must be wife, nurse, helper, and mother. In this unique tale of love and sorrow, they discover ways to still enjoy each other’s love.
