It is a book that is well worth the read when you have time to sit down and get lost within its pages. But for those of us that live hectic lives and want a quick read summary of this excellent well written novel then you will enjoy this summary of the book.

In the novel the interwoven stories of the blind Marie-Laure LeBlanc, and the German orphan Werner Pfennig and others as they are brought into the conflict of the Second World War. The Sea of Flames Diamond is wrapped within the plot but not the focus with several characters connected to it. The events that take place are during the World War two-era France and Germany. Pivotal action mainly takes place in St. Malo, a French town next to the English Channel, historically this town was known for piracy, in the Second World War it was bombed. When the bombing occurred this is where the temporal focus of the novel lies, tying the observed reality to the text in a chronological setting this being an important factor when writing historical fiction. Making connections to real places and events helps to immerse us deeper into the narrative.
