Paper Towns: by John Green | Summary & Analysis
This is a Summary & Analysis. John Green’s piece offers young adult readers an exciting story of the end of high school careers and the beginning of awakened, perhaps more enlightened lives. The narrative rings true to experience and offers a vision of promise for those who long for authenticity and self-determination. The text does well to treat traditional coming-of-age themes.
John Green’s novel tells the story of the end of Quentin “Q†Jacobsen’s high school career, when long-time crush Margo Roth Spiegelman takes him joyriding before going missing. The former experience emboldens him to take a more active role in guiding his own life. The latter prompts a focused search that brings him closer to his friends and to a greater awareness of himself that he can take with him as he enters adulthood. It is a fun, quick read that excellently captures the experience of transition and transformation just begun. While some readers may oppose certain features of the text, those readers will likely be a minority. Most will find the read enjoyable and, perhaps, edifying.
