David Baron (1855 – 1926) was a Jewish convert to Christianity. Together with co-founder Charles Andrew Schönberger (1841 – 1924), they began the Hebrew Christian Testimony to Israel missionary organization, in London, with the purpose of converting Jews to Hebrew Christianity. Schönberger founded a branch mission in Berlin in 1921. In addition to writing several books, Baron also contributed articles to the periodical The Scattered Nation. He was a leader in the Hebrew Christian movements of the Haskalah (Jewish Enlightenment) period in Europe.
In this book he writes:
"It is my deep conviction that the continuous systematic unfolding of the Holy Scriptures, in which their true connection and interdependence, and their literal sense, and historical concrete basis are shown before any figurative or practical application of them is made, is the great need in the teaching and preaching of the present day, and that it is chiefly to the almost exclusively fragmentary, vague, disjointed, textual manner in which the Bible is being dealt with, that the lamentable lack of depth and backbone in the Christianity of the present day is due.
"It is also owing chiefly to this cause, and to the neglect, or misinterpretation of typology and prophecy, and the ignoring of the position of Israel in relation to the purposes of God as revealed in the Scriptures, that the Old Testament has become "as the words of a book that is sealed" to the majority of professing Christians, and that the most destructive and unjustifiable theories and speculations in reference to the early records of Israel's history, which form the basis on which the redemption scheme more fully unfolded in the New Testament rests, are readily accepted by many Christians.
"My humble aim, therefore, for many years past has been to unfold connectedly whole Scriptures, and thus to let the sacred oracles speak for themselves. And to those who have read my books, "The Ancient Scriptures and the Modern Jew," " Rays of Messiah's Glory," &c, I shall not appear as altogether a stranger in this field."
