The daring Miss Lavonia Hampton, who spent her nights flirting, while every man, craved her company, was always brought up short, by the articles that Grange Gordon wrote about her in the News Rag that he published. She knew the reason behind his irritating accounts of her in the social column was his way of getting back at her for turning down his offer to marry her, years before. But that was the least of her worries. When her father offered her in exchange of a gambling debt to the hated Max Paddington, she was forced to marry him against her will. In a twist of fate, she finds the need to become a highwayman, disguising herself as a man, in order to accomplish the task. Grange is determined to stop her from being involved, thinking she had enticed someone to become the highwayman, in order to give him something to write about other than herself. But when another Highway man comes to horn in on her territory, Lavonia finds herself caught between her involvement with the Irish highwayman, and Grange Gordon, who is determined to get to the bottom of just who the two highwaymen are.
